Gargle with lukewarm water mixed with salt. After this drink a glass of lukewarm water. Release toxins from your body – Empty your bladder and bowels to release toxins and waste from the body.

Plan for some early morning exercise. Ideal time for walking as the dust is low due to less traffic. Do yoga and meditation as per your preference. Do not skip breakfast. Eat healthy breakfast.

Massage your body with lukewarm oil. Select the oil as per your body type: Pitta-Coconut oil, Vata-sesame oil, Kapha-almond oil. After 20 to 30 minutes take bath.

Ayurveda Tips for Mid-day

Schedule your lunch between 12 noon to 1 PM. Take a 5 mins break after lunch, sit quietly. After this take a small stroll i.e app 100 to 120 steps. This will help in easy digestion. Advised to take a short nap 15 to 20 mins in the afternoon to avoid oversleeping in the morning.

Meditate before the sun sets. All religions gives a lot of importance to evening prayer. Have a meditation session for 15 to 20 minutes i.e give rest for the entire body.

Take your dinner before 7 pm .Avoid oily and heavy food at night. Have a light meal. Phulkas, porridge or upmas are ideal.

Do not watch TV for a long time at night. Avoid any kind of mental stress like fight or action during this time. Reading is a good habit. Listen to light and calming music. This will have a soothing effect on your mind. Go to bed before 10 PM. There should be a gap of atleast 3 hours after your last meal and the sleeping time. Take a small stroll after dinner.

Those who have difficulty to sleep can have a bath with ayurvedic herbal oils. A lukewarm water bath is ideal as you can make your body muscles relax and have a nice nap.   • Drink warm water through out the day. The frequency of water intake is important than the quantity. Take small sips if water every half an hour.
  • Eat when you are hungry. Avoid junk food.
  • Avoid watching TV or reading when you are eating. Sit calmly and in a relaxing posture while eating your meals.

WINTER SKIN CARE TIPS AND HOME REMEDIESIn winter skin becomes dry and dark too. This is a common problem faced by many. The moisture in the skin goes down and the skin becomes dry. At times the skin dryness will become irritated, itchy too. Dry skin can be treated with moisturizers. There are many natural moisturizers and over the counter sold products for skin care.

Tips for skin care in winter

  • Avoid hot water baths. The hot water will take out the moisture from the skin and skin becomes dry. Therefore do not have hot and long baths in winter.
  • Apply petroleum jelly on face, lips, hands and legs.
  • The lips gets chapped. This is a major problem for many. Apply petroleum jelly or fresh milk cream to the affected part. Let it remain for 15 minutes.
  • Apply coconut oil on your body at least 15 to 20 minutes prior to bath. This will make your skin smooth and soft.
  • Preferably use natural moisturizers, avoid chemical moisturizers unless you have allergy using raw leaf extract or pulp eg.aloe vera.
  • Apply moisturizer on your head basically on the scalp. This will minimize dandruff and provide necessary oils to your roots and the hair will be nourished.
  • Cover your body completely and do not expose your skin to cold air.
  • Need to have a control over your food. Add Vitamin A, Vitamin E foods in your diet.
  • Stay hydrated in winter. Take juices and drinks in small quantities several times of the day.
  • A vital skin care tipfor winter involves bare minimum use of water. After a wash or shower, make sure to pat yourself completely dry.
  • To overcome flaking, chapping and itchy cracks caused during winter, use cotton socks & gloves to have yourself adequately covered from the pinching chill of winter.
  • The skin problem becomes intense for people suffering with psoriasis, diabetes, thyroid and eczema. They will develop cuts and lesions during this time. The sunlight will also be less and therefore the severity in itching.


Home remedies to treat dry skin in winter

  • Mix 1 tbsp of orange peel powder, 1 tbsp of honey and apply this paste on the dry skin. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash off with cold water.
  • You can address the entire skin by adding 2 tbsp of olive oil in a bucket of bathing water. This will prevent dry skin.
  • Try applying the paste of mashed papaya and banana in equal quantities. Ideal for winter dry skin.
  • Avoid using soap high in alkaline content, it is better to have your skin washed with paste of Besan / chick pea flour and yogurt.
  • In case you prefer using soap, make sure to use one with adequate moisturizing content. Soaps based on natural oils and glycerin may turn out to be a healthy alternative.
  • Opt for oil based moisturizing creams, avoid water based creams that are recommended during summer for skin care.
